Our commitment to people and planet

the context

Fashion is the second most polluting industry in the world.

It accounts for...

  • 10% of global carbon emissions,
  • consumes more energy than aviation and shipping combined,
  • produces 20% of global wastewater.
  • A single pair of jeans requires approximately 10,000 litres of water to produce.
  • The average garment is worn just seven times before it’s discarded.

But the environmental cost is only half the story.

  • 80% of garment workers globally are women.
  • Most earn poverty wages,
  • work in unsafe conditions, and
  • have little to no labour protection.
  • The brands they make clothes for post record profits.
  • The communities they live in bear the consequences of an industry that has never been held to account.

At OWF we believe style and sustainability are NOT in conflict.

They’re the same intention - to wear what you love, use what you have, and make choices that last.

How OWF works differently

Every session starts with your existing wardrobe.

Before anything new is considered, we work with what you already own - editing, rebuilding, finding what works and understanding what’s missing.

The most sustainable wardrobe is the one you actually use.

When sourcing is needed, we look to secondhand and vintage first, ethical and independent sustainable brands, and rental where the occasion suits.

We never earn commission on purchases.

We have no incentive to push you toward anything new.

Our only job is to help you dress in a way that feels completely, boldly, unapologetically YOU - using as little new resource as possible to get there.

Where your clothes go when they leave your wardrobe

Nothing goes to waste. Every option keeps clothes out of landfill.

For any pieces you're ready to let go of, YOU choose what happens next...

Hand them to OWF

If you just want them gone without thinking about it, we'll take them.

Items may be added to the OWF styling collection for future clients, upcycled, or resold.

Either way, they stay in circulation - not in a landfill.

Donate to a vetted charity

We work with organisations where we know your clothes are genuinely reused - not exported overseas, not sold in bulk to textile merchants, not ending up in landfill.

TRAID: London-based charity with 12 shops across the city. Every garment is hand-sorted and resold in the UK. Funds go toward global projects supporting garment workers - from organic cotton farmers to factory floor conditions. They also offer free home collections across Greater London.

Safer Places: Essex and Hertfordshire domestic abuse charity, operating for over 50 years. Clothing goes directly to women and children arriving at the refuge - many with nothing but what they're wearing. Your clothes go straight to someone who needs them, locally.

Sistah Space: London-based charity specifically supporting women and girls of African and Caribbean heritage affected by domestic abuse. Clothing donations go directly to the women they support.

Sell through OWF with a 50/50 profit share

We list and sell your items on your behalf. You get half of whatever sells.

Anything unsold after 3 months is donated or returned to you - your choice.

plus...

1 tree planted per booking

Every time a client books a session with OWF, we plant one tree through One Tree Planted - a global reforestation non-profit working to restore forests across Africa, Asia, Latin America and beyond.

ABOUT ONE TREE PLANTED

1% for people

1% of OWF’s annual revenue is donated to Labour Behind the Label - the UK arm of the Clean Clothes Campaign, fighting for the rights and fair wages of garment workers worldwide.

ABOUT Labour Behind the Label

1% for the planet

1% of OWF’s annual revenue is donated to World Land Trust - supporting the conservation and reforestation of critically threatened habitats across the globe.

From 2028, OWF will formalise its environmental giving through certified 1% for the Planet membership.

ABOUT World Land Trust

Our packaging

When sourcing items for clients, OWF uses existing packaging materials wherever possible. We do not purchase new packaging. Any future rental or product element will use eco-friendly materials only.

we're not finished.

Sustainability isn't a box we tick - it's a direction we're moving in. The choices we make today won't be the same ones we make in 5 years, and that's the point. As the science evolves, the supply chains shift, and we learn more from the women we work with and the communities we serve, OWF will keep adapting.

If you've got ideas, perspectives, criticism or suggestions on how we can do better - we genuinely want to hear them. The work is bigger than any one business, and the best brands stay open to being challenged.
